Which AntiVirus should you use?

We recently went through testing on a couple of anti-virus solutions. We started off with a BitDefender solution which we ran for about a year but we noticed that it wasnt sufficiant in protecting us as it didnt recognise most virus’s that entered the system. The product also asked you if you would like to accept everything that you do much like Windows Vista’s User Control Protection. Also BitDefender scanned every file you put your mouse on making it hard to copy, cut, move and delete files.

The next thing we tried was AVG Free Edition. Worked ok for about a month and then we removed it due to the fact that the updates were extremely large, i didnt have the ability to automatically update from a network server. AVG also slows your computer down immensly. It doesnt allow IT proffesionals to password protect its settings or enter Email settings so that the program can automatically alert the Administrator of Virus Alerts and update problems. But what can you expect from a free software.

AvastWe tested Avast Home edition for a few months. It allows Administrators to password protect the settings, set up email alerts and the updates are very small. The Anti-Virus is an install and leave package. It never pops up windows asking for your permission to do something you already allowed. It picks up all known virus’s. Avast slows your system down a tad but not by much. But thats mandatory for an antivirus package. Avast Antivirus is currently being used on all our client machines!

Avast Home free edition can be downloaded here.

We are currently using Nod 32 on all our servers. Nod 32 is currently the best antivirus solution in the world. It picks up all known virus’  and runs smoothly on machines. Nod 32 is recomended for home use and for bussiness use. Nod32 allows system administrators and parents to password protect antivirus settings.  Nod32 has a wide range of settings allowing you to fully customise the solution. Nod32 enables you to set an email address for the package to mail errors and when it picks up virus’ to the person that needs to be alerted.
